Fishing

Horse Riding & Stabling

Fly Fishing enthusiasts have eight trout dams on which to pursue their favorite pastime. These Dams are regularly stocked from Mbona's own hatchery grown rainbow trout. Bass are also found in the largest dam, Crystal, where Bass fishing using conventional bass tackle(no treble hooks) has now been allowed over the past few years.  Schools of small tilapia can also be found in Crystal dam which have become a fun target for youngsters to catch. Float tubing is permitted on Crystal, Evergreen, & Laughter Dams 

Privately owned horses can be stabled at Mbona. Horses belonging to the reserve are available for outrides for more experienced riders , and paddock rides can be booked for children. The horses are well looked after and groomed, with freedom to enjoy the open space and grassland areas of the Reserve on a daily basis.

Riders have a variety of scenic paths and hills to enjoy on horseback.

Mountain Biking

Walking & Running trails

Mountain biking, at all ability levels, is particularly popular on Mbona as the suitable terrain offers some of the most varied and enjoyable biking in the country. There is a regular group of resident riders whom enjoy social rides within Mbona and the surrounding valley areas. The Karkloof valley is well known for its spectacular mountain bike trails and events which operate from the nearby Karkloof Country club.

There are many well maintained walks/hikes throughout Mbona, encompassing both grassland and forest. Trail running is popular for the more intense outdoor enthusiast as our paths are varied in elevation, distance and well marked.  The well known annual Karkloof 100-Miler Event makes use of some of Mbona's forest and grassland paths.

Watersports such as canoeing, small boat sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and windsurfing can be enjoyed on Lake Crystal. There are two small yacht moles on either side, picnic areas and swimming is the order of any hot day spent at Crystal.

There is a small clubhouse near the stables for shareholder use, housing a book exchange, board games and a table tennis table. A popular shareholder braai is held there on the last Friday of each month. There are also two tennis courts with a small rustic pavilion for fun energetic days with friends and family.
